Italy: Local residents protest opening of refugee centre in town near French border

Residents of the northern Italian town of Ventimiglia marched towards the town hall on Wednesday, in protest to the reported opening of a new refugee shelter in the area.

A delegation of members from the Committee of the Marina San Giuseppe District was seen marching in relative silence with a banner toward the Piazza delle Liberta.

On arrival, a few protesters entered the town hall building to hand City Mayor Enrico Loculano a list of collected signatures, which were voicing their opposition to the opening of another migrant centre in the city.
