Lebanon: No justification for Iraqi soldiers’ alleged mistreatment of IS militants – HRW

The Executive Director of Human Rights Watch's Middle East and North Africa division, Sarah Leah Whitson, condemned the Iraqi soldiers' alleged abuse of the self-proclaimed Islamic State's (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) fighters in Mosul, speaking from Beirut, Saturday.

"The mistreatment of anybody is never justified, even if they are ISIS fighters they should not be mistreated," Whitson stated. "That is why we have international laws that are going to separate us from ISIS, that's why we can say the international community is better than ISIS because we don't mistreat detainees."
